About the Board

Poppy Seed Kids, Incorporation is a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation founded by, and composed of, State employees and parents of children attending the childcare center at the May Lee State Office Complex (MLSOC) in Sacramento, California. Our purpose as a board is to:

Oversee Leasing Operations

As needed, our board manages the process of seeking, selecting, and subleasing to a qualified childcare provider to occupy the facility at 651 Bannon St.

Work in Partnership with Our Vendor

We support our vendor to maintain a safe and welcoming childcare center, promote enrollment, and coordinate with the Department of General Services (DGS) as needed.

Our Mission

To ensure each child receives quality care in a warm and nurturing environment that promotes inclusivity, diversity, and fun! We support each child’s social, emotional, physical, creative, and cognitive growth by partnering with teachers who provide engaging curriculum that includes art, music, math, science, and literacy.

We prioritize children’s health and safety while fostering positive relationships that help every child feel seen, supported, and connected.


Our Members

Several of our members are state employees from various sectors including Human Resources, External Affairs, Business Management, and more. Each member brings unique expertise and childcare experience which help guide our efforts.

Each member of this board is a volunteer contributing their time to support the success of our vendor and the best interest of the children and guardians who utilize the childcare center.

  • Building and Childcare Liaison (2)

    General duties: Coordinate communication between the board, our vendor, and other occupants at MLSOC. Conduct inventory reports and facility visits as needed.

  • Board alternate (2)

    General duties: Stay apprised of board discussions to assume tasks or vote on matters as needed.

River City Early Learning Center

Located within the May Lee State Office Complex, River City Early Learning Center (RCELC) offers childcare for children ranging from infancy to age five. To enroll or view more details such as hours, cost, and schedules, visit the RCELC website.
